Free Time 2

This project helped me by getting my mind off of my work so I could get more done later. Sometimes you need a fresh eye to look at something to that you can see differently the same thing you was looking at or catch something that you could usually miss cause it is constantly in front of you.

Free Time

We had a class assignment where we had to use the time we had in class to do whatever gave us bliss. I went to see the movie 300 at the dollar show. It is by far, the best movie I have seen this year. It has even topped a movie I have grown to love very much, Gladiator.

The "What if" question I thought of is, "How would I make the viewer want to put on the glasses in my project?" My answer to it is that I would try to animate my systoms of eye strain from itching eyes that makes me scratch them - also cutting off half of the picture I see in front of me. To accomplish that I would fade a balck box randomly across half the screen ever soo often. i would also blink to try and bring moisture to my eyes. There I would fade a black box over the entire stage. I would also make the picture blurry.

In my head

Share something (or multiple things) with the class that moves or inspires you. These can be things to which you have positive or negative reaction, but they need to be things that you react to strongly. Be ready to discuss how  they move you.

I am inspired when I see or feel passion. It really doesn't matter if it is art, sports, or anything else. You can just tell when someone "lives and dreams" something they are dealing with. Their eyes light up and the emotion can be heard as they talk about it. That really inspires me to show the same feelings in my work and hobbies. DO IT RIGHT OR DON'T DO IT AT ALL!

What do you consider to be sacred?

Nothing right now. I have a lot of things I consider important but I feel that currently nothing has reached the "sacred" level.

What is an image?

An image is my mind's mental image of what I see, taste, smell, touch, and hear.

What is music?

Music is the right combination of sounds that has a interesting enough mix to keep my attention.

What is New Media?

New Media is a way for individuals to communicate through digital technology that always continues to evolve.

Why did you chose to go into New Media?

I chose New Media because I have things that I want to say and need a way to get that to multiple individuals. I believe that if I am like this then there are more types like me - enough to make a living off of.

Who are you? Hint - how have you come to be the person you are today and what are you interested in. This may be a very personal question so answer as you see fit, but think about it seriously. You don't have to share everything you experience in your journey through this class.

I am a very analytical man that looks at his past continually. This information coupled with the wisdom gained from trusted individual's experiences help me to make a smarter choice in life each day. I am this way because my father showed me how to not let your circumstances dictate how far you can go in life. He never verbally told me this but his actions showed me. I now have to prepare myself to leave the unspoken guide of life for my seed coming after me.

How is this class impacting you and your approach to New Media? Have you seen any changes in your approach to projects or how you think about New Media? Consider the discussions, projects, and examples we have experienced when you are considering this question.

This class has basically showed me that if you have a great idea, that is not where you stop. There are more ways to stretch the envelop - if you tried. I now am in the process of changing my project to help the viewer "feel" like they are right there instead of looking at it on the screen.

Senses

This was very interesting because it felt like some senses would turn off unless you focused on them. Or maybe I dull my senses because I do them all the time? Either way, here are my answers:

Go to a movie and document the smells you encounter.

I went to a "movie in the park" and seen Night at the Museum". I smelled grass and popcorn.

Go out to eat and document the sounds you hear.

I heard people talking, silverware hitting plates, and chairs moving.

Listen to music and document what you see.

I saw myself back when I was in high school and practicing on the track for the 400m relay.

Get ready for your day and document what you physically feel.

I feel an overwhelming tiredness. I feel bloated and hungry at the same time. I felt the bed as I sat on it to put on my clothes. I felt the cereal box, bowl, and milk as I prepared my breakfast. I felt the touch of water and soap as I took a shower. I also felt the face and bath cloth. I felt the toothbrush as I put toothpaste on it and brushed my teeth. I felt my feet sliding into my sandals, as I was about to leave for work.

Go to the grocery and document what you taste as you journey up and down the aisles.

I did not taste any food because my allergies were messing with me and I was focused on finding the Benadryl.

Be the egg

For my first project, I decided to analyze what I do when I relax. I decided to put the egg in positions that I usually find myself in. I took a picture of me playing my Xbox 360, sitting in front of my DVD rack, reading on my bed, and lastly, working on my computer. I tried to position the egg exactly where I would place myself in the scenerio. I then took the pictures and made a short quicktime movie out of it.
